More about our charities this year:

Little Free Trees ($750 goal): Based in Devon, Little Free Trees is an organization that conducts tree plantings and tree giveaways throughout the Southwestern UK. Last year, the Music and Planet Project gave a portion of its Planting for the Future Fundraiser dollars to Little Free Trees, and they used the money to purchase 50 trees that have been planted out in a local woodland and handed out to individuals to plant on their properties. This year’s dollars will go toward the continued purchase and planting of trees that provide shade, filter the air of pollutants, and capture stormwater. Trees, especially in urban and suburban areas, are essential for clean air, wildlife habitat, and capturing carbon and other pollutants.

Suffolk Wildlife Trust ($750 goal): Suffolk Wildlife Trust has been working for over 60 years to restore the natural lands and wildlife of this region of the UK. Their two overarching goals are to preserve 30% of Suffolk’s land and sea habitats and to inspire 1 in 4 Suffolk residents to take action for nature and climate. We will donate the funds raised for this charity to two specific projects they are working on: restoration of the Worlingham Marshes and purchase/installation of next boxes and other habitat features for swifts, a local bird species whose population has been cut in half in just the past 30 years. More details about these projects are found on their website.

Michigan Friends of Wildlife ($1,500 goal): Michigan Friends of Wildlife rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife in the Ann Arbor area and nurses them back to the point of re-entering the wild in some cases. Donations will go toward the training fees for 5 new wildlife rehabbers, allowing the organization to greatly expand the number of wildlife it can keep under its care.

Small-scale Solar and Education Station with Urban Community Agrinomics ($1,500 goal): The Music and Planet Project is working with Urban Community Agrinomics at the Catawba Trail Farm to purchase and install a small-scale portable solar panel station that will be used to offset some of the farm’s energy needs and educate visitors about the benefits of solar energy. The solar station will serve a number of purposes for the farm. It will improve the farm’s resilience by providing power during blackouts, lower the farm’s carbon footprint, and reduce their monthly energy bill by lowering energy usage.

2024 Planting for the Future Fundraiser

In 2024, artists from around the globe performed concerts via livestream, raising over $2,000 that went toward the planting of 80 trees in North Carolina (30 trees) and the Southwestern UK (50 trees). These trees were planted by the recipients of our fundraising – Keep Durham Beautiful in North Carolina and Little Free Trees in the UK. This event was sponsored by Derringer Discoveries.

Check out their performances here.

Pictures below are of the tree plantings that took place throughout late 2024 and early 2025.
