Carpe Diem EP, Tyler Nimon

Tyler Nimon’s Carpe Diem EP is an artistic triumph that showcases the breadth and depth of a songwriter who has traveled the world in the pursuit of music. Through warm and expansive guitars, creative tempo twists and turns, and a consistently ear-pleasing vocal tone, Nimon puts his artistic prowess on full display in this latest release.

The EP kicks off with a distinct indie Americana flavor reminiscent of genre giants Wilco and Yo La Tengo. Employing a big stereo electric guitar tone underlaid by a picky acoustic, Nimon evokes the familiar Jeff Tweedy and Nels Cline combination that us Wilco fans love, but he goes his own way with it. Flourishes of flanged effects and sporadic guitar solos cut across catchy melodies leaving the listener waiting for the next surprise.

Nimon’s musical exploration does not stop there though. We also hear a bit of a 90s alternative influence sprinkled throughout and particularly present in the second track “Turn The Pages”. In track 4 “Come and See”, he turns to jazzy keys, slap bass, and motown flare and effortlessly translates his silken vocal tone of the earlier tracks into a more soulful setting. On the final track “Red Bird”, he pivots again, this time putting forth a cathartic Elton John-esque ballad that caps off the EP with a sense of both triumph and sentimentality.

More to come from Tyler Nimon, but for now, there is plenty to indulge in by listening to the Carpe Diem EP, a sonically creative and diverse artistic statement. Listen to the EP here.
